You can easily use Photos for OS X and iCloud Photo Library with multiple mac computers. You need to paired Photos for OS X with iCloud Photo Library's 'Optimize Storage' feature. When you open 'Photos' app for the first time on your Mac, the library should import automatically. ICloud Photo Library was introduced with iOS 8, but with the launch of the Photos for OS X app, it's now available on the Mac. In a nutshell, iCloud Photo Library is Apple's newest photo service. May 21, 2015  I have a library of 3.5k photos and iCloud handled them pretty well. They were all on my iPhone 5, uploaded to iCloud, no issues. Sometimes it would time out and not upload new photos, and then in those cases I just used to reboot the phone and it would upload after a while. My Mac then showed the photos too after they were all uploaded.

Feb 24, 2015  Here's a very quick demo of the new Photos app for OS X, specifically iCloud Photo Library. The 7400 photos & 1000 videos aren't on this Mac. Watch them download on. May 26, 2016  How to Download Photos from iCloud to Mac OS X or Windows PC. Have a picture or several photos stored in iCloud and you want the raw file downloaded locally on any Mac, Windows PC, or other device? Here’s how you can do that: Open a web browser and go to iCloud.com and login with your Apple ID as usual. Dec 27, 2015  Added: After you delete the Photos Library from your Mac you can only access the photos in iCloud using the web interface and the Photos.app on the www.icloud.com page. You cannot access iCloud Photo Library using Photos on your Mac, unless you make a photos library on an external drive your System Photos Library.

If you use a Managed Apple ID, iCloud for Windows isn’t supported.

Some Android devices can use iCloud.com, but the site works best when using supported browsers on macOS, iOS, iPadOS, and Windows.

Some features aren't available in all countries and regions. Access to some services is limited to 10 devices.

  1. Learn how iCloud operates in China mainland.
  2. You can get iWork for iOS and iWork for Mac from the App Store if they didn't come with your iOS device or Mac.
  3. Outlook 2010 Personal Edition isn't supported.
  4. To share iCloud storage with your family, you need iOS 11 or later, or macOS High Sierra or later. You can participate in a shared iCloud storage plan using iOS 8 or later, or OS X Yosemite or later.
  5. If you have two-factor authentication and you use iCloud Keychain, you need iOS 9 and OS X El Capitan or later.
  6. In some cases, My Photo Stream isn't available for new accounts. Learn how to use iCloud Photos to store your photos and videos in iCloud.
  7. If you don’t meet the minimum system requirements, your data is still protected by two-step verification.

If you want your Mac's photos to wirelessly sync to all your other iOS devices and computers, you want to set up iCloud Photo Library: Apple's photo sync service lets you back up your images on all your devices, as well as access them — online or offline — on said devices. If you're willing to pay for the extra iCloud storage space, you can store an incredible amount of photos and videos, all accessible at the touch of a button or multi-touch screen.

Here's how to set it up on your Mac and get everything configured to your liking!

How to set up iCloud Photo Library on your Mac

  1. Launch the Photos app on your Mac.
  2. Select the Photos menu in the upper left corner of your screen.
  3. Go to Preferences.
  4. Click on the iCloud tab.

  5. Check 'iCloud Photos.' This will begin uploading any and all images you have stored in the Photos app to iCloud.

How to optimize your photo and video storage

If you routinely shoot 4K video or high-quality images on your iPhone, iPad, or DSLR, you may run out of storage space fast. (I have a 1TB iMac, but also have almost a terabyte of 4K video stored in iCloud — it gets unwieldy, fast!) This is especially true if you have a Mac laptop with limited hard drive space: It's nice to look at your iPhone's gorgeous Portrait mode photos, but not necessarily always practical to store all of them locally.

Thankfully, Apple offers an Optimize Storage option, which lets you store full-resolution photos and videos of only your most recently shot and accessed imagery; all older photos and videos are available to download via iCloud and are stored as low-resolution previews on your device to save space. You can switch between optimizing your Mac's photos storage or storing your full library locally: Here's how!

Note: If you plan on using Optimize Storage, we suggest having at least one device that stores your entire library locally (usually a Mac with a large local or external hard drive), so you have multiple backups of your photographs and video.

  1. Launch the Photos app on your Mac.
  2. Click Photos in the App menu in the upper left corner of your screen.
  3. Select Preferences from the drop-down menu.

  4. Click the iCloud tab.
  5. Click Optimize Mac Storage.

Full-resolution versions of your photos and videos will be uploaded to iCloud.

How to share photos with iCloud Photo Library

Apple's photo service doesn't just provide online backups and sync for your images and video: The company also offers a free sharing service that allows you to send shared albums to friends and family (or create a publicly-shared website). Here's how to turn it on for your Mac.
